Peter, Paul and Mary is the first album by American music trio Peter, Paul and Mary, released in 1962 on Warner Bros. Released in both mono and stereo on catalog no. 1449, It is one of the rare folk albums to reach US - staying for over a month. The lead-off singles "If I Had a Hammer" and "Lemon Tree" reached numbers 10 and 35 respectively on the Billboard Pop Singles chart.
The trio Peter, Paul and Mary (often PP&M) is an American musical group that was one of the most successful folk-singing groups of the 1960s. The trio comprises Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers. The group was created by manager Albert Grossman, who sought to create a folk "supergroup" by bringing together "a tall blonde (Travers), a funny guy (Stookey), and a good looking guy (Yarrow).

It included Lemon Tree, 500 Miles and the Pete Seeger hit tunes If I Had a Hammer and Where Have All the Flowers Gone? It remained a main catalog-seller for decades to come, eventually selling over two million copies, earning double platinum certification in the United States alone.
This proved particularly lucrative in the ‘70s, when - in addition to the song itself – Puff also became the star of his own animated TV special. Puff the Magic Dragon was also a major chart hit, climbing to on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the Adult Contemporary Singles chart.
Peter Yarrow wrote the song before Peter, Paul and Mary came together as a group. The trio–Peter, Paul Stookey and Mary Travers–were folk singers who were working as solo acts, for pennies or a meal, in the coffee shops that abounded in those days. Folk-rock manager extraordinaire Albert Grossman was looking to cash in on the resurgence of folk music, and put the trio together in 1961. They quickly achieved fame with their first album, Peter, Paul and Mary, which was released in May of 1962 in both mono and stereo versions. Though the trio performed Puff The Magic Dragon in their live shows, they didn’t actually record the song until 1962 for their second album, Moving. Years after Leonard had written and forgotten about the poem, a friend of his contacted him to tell him that Peter was looking for him. Peter had found the poem on his typewriter and had written the song based on Leonard's poem.
