John Kenneth Holt CD (11 July 1947 – 19 October 2014), better known as John Holt, was a reggae singer and songwriter from Jamaica who first found fame as a member of The Paragons, before establishing himself as a solo artist In 1965 Holt joined Bob Andy, Garth "Tyrone" Evans, and Junior Menz in their group the Binders; Menz departed to be replaced by Howard Barrett and they changed their name to the Paragons.

Holt entered his first contest aged 12, and won 28 titles over the next four years before launching his recording career with a self-penned debut single, Forever I’ll Stay/I Cried a Tear, released in 1963. Plenty more well-received tunes followed, including collaborations with Alton Ellis. It was a promising start. His 1000 Volts of Holt album proved that he could sweeten his music without resort to saccharin, but he was not so successful with other crossover ventures. Cash-in follow-ups – 2000 Volts and 3000 Volts – failed to sell to the same degree, and there were some ill-advised disco albums in 1977 and 1978. By the late 70s and early 80s, as reggae had moved into a more radical era, he had largely painted himself out of the picture.

The talented teen was quickly snapped up by producer Leslie Kong, who recorded Holt's debut single, "Forever I'll Stay"/"I Cried a Tear. From there, the youngster began working with producer Clive Chin, debuting the partnership with "Rum Bumper," a duet with Alton Ellis. More singles followed, but none really captured the island's imagination. The latter song titled Holt's 1971 album, which compiled many of his hits with Dodd. Like a Bolt, released that same year, bundles up recordings done with Duke Reid, including the hit "Ali Baba," which quickly became one of Reid's most-versioned rhythms.
