I Know a Place is an album release by Petula Clark, which in the USA (her second on Warner Bros. Arranged and produced by Tony Hatch, the album followed on the release of Clark's "I Know a Place" hit single and yielded another UK hit with "You're the One".

In the wake of the Grammy-nominated Downtown album, it was time for Petula Clark and producer/songwriter Tony Hatch to record a proper follow-up album, rather than throwing together some well-chosen singles. The result was I Know a Place, the first real album to capture Clark's new, post-"Downtown" sound. Not quite all of it works in that vein; "Strangers and Lovers" has a rather older feel than much of the rest - except for the electric guitar behind the outro.

Petula Clark, with a 25-year career in Britain and Europe already behind her, was just another voice emanating from the "British Invasion" when "Downtown" premiered in the . By January '65, she was at the top of the charts, and it was obvious that this was one voice that was destined to outlast most of the others coming to our shores in the wake of the Beatles. It wasn't until the follow-up "I Know A Place" (released in the . as "The New Petula Clark Album"), for which Clark earned her second Grammy, that listeners were made aware of what the post-"Downtown" Petula was capable of accomplishing. I Know A Place", in terms of both content and performance - is very possibly the best work she ever released in conjunction with Hatch, whose appreciation of the "Motown" sound is apparent in tracks such as "Dancing in the Street" and "The In Crowd".
