Then comes Pancho Piloncho, a Larry Harlow original tune that was first recorded on an album he did for Nippon Fonogram records in 1975 called Belmonte y su Sexteto (he was signed to Fania back then so couldn't do it under his own name!). This tune is where Larry really shows off his piano skills

The young Harlow, is affectionately nicknamed el Judio Maravilloso (The Marvelous Jew). Harlow is a noted salsa bandleader and t, although he primarily plays piano. He produced over 260 albums for Fania Records including his brother Andy’s four albums on the Fania stable mate Vaya Records between 1972 and 1976: Sorpresa La Flauta, La Música Brava, El Campesino and Latin Fever. The first garnered a gold disc and spawned "La Lotería", the company’s biggest selling 45 rpm release to date

Harlow, born Ira Kahn in Brooklyn in 1939, was greatly influenced by his father Buddy Kahn Harlow, a bassist and bandleader. He began piano studies at the age of five, and planned to become a jazz pianist until he first heard the mambo while attending Music and Art High School during the early '50s. During the 1964 World's Fair (held in Flushing, Queens), Harlow played piano for Johnny Pacheco's conjunto before creating the Larry Harlow orchestra. Two years later, Harlow made headlines again with his Fania album Hommy, A Latin Opera, which was staged at Carnegie Hall. Max Salazar & John Bush, Rovi.
