The undisputed highlight of 2009's Asagiri Jam festival, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are an eight-piece brass band who play some of the most ass-shaking funk and hip hop you could ask for (complete with sousaphone bass lines). Amazingly, they're all brothers too – the offspring of former Sun Ra Arkestra trumpeter Phil Cohran, who joined them for this year's Kelan Philip Cohran And The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble album. They supplied one of the highlights at this year's Asagiri Jam festival, but if you missed out, you can catch them at a headlining show of their own here in Tokyo.
