Genesis, Peter Gabriel - The Genesis of Genesis album FLAC
Genesis is the twelfth studio album by the English rock band Genesis, released on 3 October 1983 by Charisma and Virgin Records. Following the band's tour in support of their 1982 live album Three Sides Live, Genesis took an eight-month break before they regrouped in the spring of 1983 to record a new studio album, their first since Abacab (1981). It marks their first written, recorded, and mixed in its entirety at their own recording facility named The Farm

Since the first rumblings of Genesis in 1967, it was clear that Peter Gabriel had his own unique vision. His path to find his own artistic identity would lead him to constantly look for new ground. Though his tenure with Genesis was less than a decade, the mark he left on the band, and the fans, is undeniable. To this day there are those who swear only by the Gabriel era, dismissing everything that came after, while, of course, record sales would play devil's advocate . The first Genesis album, From Genesis to Revelation is all but forgotten, even by many of the band's fans. While the band is obviously not fully developed yet, as a first step, it's got plenty of charm and great tunes.
Genesis Genesis Live Atco/Atlantic 1973. 1973 brought this exquisite live release. Though people would not get to see the crazy live show they would get to hear some of the stories that Gabriel would use when introducing songs. The disc shows that some Genesis tunes, such as "The Knife" were better live. Though a full live version of "Supper's Ready" was originally scheduled and put on the test pressings, it was dropped to make the album a single disc affair. Gabriel lacked musical input, dealing instead with the lyrics and story. Though the album is flawed the music is extraordinary, but lacks the great soloing of the records that preceded it. This would become a point of contention for Hackett after Gabriel's departure. Though the next two releases with Phil Collins on vocals would follow in a similar fashion with good results, the departure of Gabriel left a hollow feeling to Genesis' overall sound.

The ultimate Genesis Album, if only because "Suppers Ready" takes you on a journey unlike any other Genesis song. Hackett and Gabriel at their best. All of the tracks are covered in brilliance, and Phil does an excellent job here, both on the percussives & on the vocals. The only Genesis album I would listen to all the way through. One of my pers fav, can't explain why but Phil sounds like a good lyrics writer as-well on this! This album with 10 avant-garde songs, is so great. There is no quit in genesis. My husband and I fell in love to this album.
Genesis started as an amalgam of two bands formed by schoolboys attending Charterhouse School in Godalming, England; the original lineup consisted of Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, and Chris Stewart, though Stewart was soon replaced as drummer by John Silver and then John Mayhew. By the end of 1970, Phillips and Mayhew had left the band, with Phil Collins joining as drummer, and by early 1971, guitarist Steve Hackett had filled the gap left by Phillips . Following the tour promoting the album, frontman Peter Gabriel left the group in mid 1975. The band regrouped and went on releasing three albums eight studio albums with Phil Collins stepping as a singer.
The early Genesis material is far better than the wishy-washy commercial crap the band churned out in the eighties and nineties - in my humble opinion. Genesis was one of the best progressive rock bands of the seventies. Peter Gabriel was the lead vocalist, and Phil Collins was on drums (where he belonged). And he has been very successful (mainly in the eighties, with the albums up to and including the hugely popular So). He forged a unique career path; dabbling in pop, rock, dance and world music. The album was released in 2000. A couple of years later, he released one of his best albums (Up). An updated singles collection (Hit) appeared, the following year.
