Joris Voorn - The First Sound album FLAC

Dutchman Joris Voorn recently has been making a name for himself with the the Lost Memories 12"s, but it's this EP that's worth seeking. Over four tracks, Voorn establishes a finely polished sound that is both versatile and textured. Compositionally, the tracks keep to fairly uncluttered structures, which in this case prove to be effective.

After pressing PLAY, the first sounds introduce you into Voorn's world with a groovy and slow start - chillout beats and Hindu ragas included - which builds as the tracks progress, layering different textures and looping one on top of the other in a surprisingly natural way, including hits like our dearest Plastikman's Consumed

Joris Voorn – District Seven. All three of Voorn’s previous albums Future History, From A Deep Place and Nobody Knows have been critically acclaimed, exhibiting timeless melody and a wide range of shades, emotions and styles. From the techno loops of the first through to the classy vocal moments on the third, his LPs have mapped out his endlessly evolving musical identity. The prospect of seeing where he takes things on his new album is very exciting indeed

Over four tracks, Voorn establishes a finely polished sound that is both versatile and textured. Compositionally, the tracks keep to fairly uncluttered structures, which in this case prove to be effective. "Take Off" is an aggressive number centered around energetic synth lines, while my pick of the batch is "It Ain't Our World," dominated by a tremendous chord, with a vocal sample appearing exactly twice, urgently reminding us that this world in fact does not belong to us.
