Roger Sessions, The Group For Contemporary Music - Quintet · Quartet album FLAC
A quick glance at his discography reveals that Roger Sessions' chamber works are seriously under-recorded; while this 2006 Naxos album of works for strings appears to be a welcome addition to a lamentably meager catalog, it is really a reissue of the 1993 release by the Group for Contemporary Music on Koch International Classics.

The Group for Contemporary Music. The Group for Contemporary Music is an American chamber ensemble dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music. The Group was based at Columbia University from 1962 until 1971, when it took up residency at the Manhattan School of Music. Initial support was provided by the Alice M. Ditson Fund of Columbia, followed later by support from a broad range of foundations and public sources. The Group's success led the Rockefeller Foundation to form lavishly-funded "spin-off" ensembles at Rutgers University, the University at Buffalo, the University of Iowa and the University of Chicago in the middle 1960s.

Band's music was energetic mix of contemporary jazz, improves and film music. Debut album "Pig Inside The Gentleman" was released in autumn 2006. After some changes in line-up, band became Sextet, having on board next musicians (besides of Kapsa brothers): Tomek Glazik - saxophones (Kult, ex-4Syfon, Sing, Sing Penelope), Wojtek Jahna - trumpet (Sing, Sing Penelope, Mordy) and the guitar player Kamil Pater who joined the band in November 2006 and lately Patryk Weclawek (bass) who replaced Pawel Urowski. Third album of this Polish nu jazz band is most matured. If previous one, released same year (recorded by Quartet) was obviously minimalistic and in fact was more soundtrack for theatrical play, than real album, this album is real full-bodied release.
