Leo Fender’s contribution to the sound of modern music is immeasurable. We were more than happy to celebrate the great sounds that Leo Fender helped conceive through his inspirational instruments.
Fender: The Golden Age 1950-1970. CD - Ace, Ace UK 1315). This unusual, imaginative compilation illustrates just how it did so through a couple of dozen or so well-chosen examples of how Fenders made their imprint on rock, blues, country, and soul music. The Fender's identification with certain guitarists made it predictable that there would be selections by, for example, surf legend Dick Dale ("Miserlou") and Eric Clapton (heard here on the Yardbirds' "I Ain't Got You"). But whether or not you're a guitar player or Fender follower, it's a good compilation of guitar-grounded music by any standard, though one obvious guitar hero (Jimi Hendrix) is not represented due to licensing hurdles.

Lots of photos of vintage Fender guitars and ephemera. Each page encapsulates the universal appeal of the Fender aesthetic (not just instruments as that is only half the story) and will interest both the average enthusiast and the serious collector. The accompanying text will inform even the most knowledgeable vintage guitar aficionado and yet not alienate the reader purely interested in design. I am going to show some of the behind the scenes pics from the various photo shoots for the book.
The Golden Age of Rock 'n' Roll" is a single by Mott the Hoople, from 1974's The Hoople. It reached number 16 on the UK Singles Chart. Performed live by Mott, "The Golden Age of Rock 'n' Roll" would usually follow a piano take on the first verse of Don McLean's "American Pie", hence following the latter's statement, "The day the music died". Ian Hunter would declare: "Or did it? Ladies and gentlemen, The Golden Age of Rock 'n' Roll!", whereupon the whole band launched into the song.

Traditional Mexican rhythms entered the rock & roll arena through Chicano artists, most prominently Ritchie Valens. Rock & roll proved an all-American, multi-ethnic hybrid, its sources and developing substyles too various to be explained away by blues plus country or any other reductionist formula
