Edgar Broughton Band contained heavy blues and even country influences. The album was followed by the release of the double A-side "Hotel Room"/"Call Me A Liar". This was played by Tony Blackburn as his 'record of the week' upon its release. The single failed to chart, but the album sold well throughout Europe, especially in Germany. In 1976, having recorded the live album Live Hits Harder (which was not released until 1979), the Edgar Broughton Band dissolved. However, Edgar and Steve Broughton together with Grant regrouped as The Broughtons to release Parlez-Vous English? in 1979, with Tom Nordon and Pete Tolson (ex-Pretty Things) playing guitar and Richard de Bastion on keyboards.

The Edgar Broughton Band were one of the most consistent artists on the Harvest label, from their bombastic debut Wasa Wasa right through to their fabulous and criminally overlooked masterpiece Oora. Whilst they never enjoyed that much success - compared with label mates Deep Purple, Pink Floyd or even BJH - they were always one of the best (the best was of course Roy Harper by a million miles). I of course knew this album existed but never bought a copy and compared today with the Harvest releases is so hard to pick up in reasonable condition.

Having come down from Warwick to London in 1968 and signed to the Blackhill Enterprices agency that had just launched Pink Floyd, the band - brothers Edgar (guitar, vocals) and Steve (drums) Broughton plus bassist Arthur Grant - were clearly going places. A dynamite live act, they'd play anywhere and everywhere, often free for worthy causes, and flatly refused to tow the official line, once playing on the back of a lorry after being refused permission to play in a public park.
