Welcome 2 Detroit is the debut studio album by American hip hop recording artist J Dilla, released on February 27, 2001. The album followed his group Slum Village's critically acclaimed Fantastic, Vol. 2, and kicked off BBE's "Beat Generation" series (producer-driven albums). Welcome 2 Detroit bears the name "Jay Dee" as well as "J Dilla", and marks the first time Dilla (who until that point was still known as Jay Dee) officially used the name J Dilla.

Album The People Vs. Welcome 2 Detroit Lyrics. Welcome to motherfuckin' Detroit, god damn it Wonder boy, shit Yeah, yeah, Tricky Let's show 'em some love! Welcome to Detroit! Where's my gangstas and all my thugs? Throw them hands up and show some love And I welcome you to Detroit city I said welcome to Detroit city Every place, everywhere we go Man, we deep everywhere we roll Ask around and they all know Tricky Ask what's good, man, they all say Tricky.

Instead of doing a breakbeat album, there were some cats from the D(etroit) that are unsigned and I gave them the opportunity to shine. With the interludes and a few other instrumentals, I just wanted a little bit of everything. Something for DJs and the people that dig it. Just something to have for the collection James Yancy – The Making of Welcome To Detroit. released July 12, 2005.
