Jimi Hendrix was an American guitarist and singer-songwriter whose career spanned from 1962 to 1970. His discography includes the recordings released during his lifetime. Prior to his rise to fame, he recorded 24 singles as a backing guitarist with American R&B artists, such as the Isley Brothers and Little Richard. Beginning in late 1966, he recorded three best-selling studio albums and 13 singles with the Jimi Hendrix Experience

Jimi Hendrix intended to release his fourth studio album as a double or triple LP before Christmas 1970. From June to August 1970, he made good progress on the realization of the planned album in his new Electric Lady Studios. Many songs were mixed on 20, 22 and 24 August. Four of these mixes were regarded as definitive versions and were presented at the opening party of Electric Lady on 26 August.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience (album). MCA continued the series of definitive masters of the Jimi Hendrix catalogue in 2000, releasing the self-titled box set The Jimi Hendrix Experience, consisting of four discs. The material includes alternative recordings, live performances and some rarities.

Jimi Hendrix’s London home will open to the public this week, his bedroom restored as it was when he lived there in 1968 and 1969. Located on the upper floors of 23 Brook Street in Mayfair, the address Hendrix called home during the release of his third and final studio album Electric Ladyland, the room has been recreated down to the last detail with the help of Hendrix’s then girlfriend Kathy Etchingham, from bed-spreads to fruit bowls, and of course, Hendrix’s personal record collection. The German composer had lived next door at 25 Brook Street for thirty six years before his death in 1759. The London room where Jimi Hendrix slept, entertained and played records so loudly his two giant speakers kept breaking, is about to open to the public. The guitar legend moved into 23 Brook Street in 1968 – and more than 45 years later the bedroom/living room of the home has been recreated down to Hendrix’s two telephones – one old-school black Bakelite, one modishly angular – on the floor and the scallop shell ashtray on the bedside table. But before that, it was Etchingham who found the evening paper ad for the £30 a week flat the rising star once poignantly described as his first real home. The advert boasted that the flat came with a fully fitted kitchen and a modish pink bathroom suite. Another room at the museum has a wall of album covers, and an index of the music played on the Bang & Olufsen turntable.

In the religion of music, few albums closely unite the many sects and spin-offs of fandom. Jimi Hendrix’s Are You Experienced - released 50 years ago today (on May 12, 1967) - is one of those albums. It's not just one of the greatest debut albums ever, it’s one of the greatest albums, ever. It’s one of the classics of classic rock. In terms of rock iconography and cultural significance, it surpasses the Abbey Road photo-op on your next trip to London. It surpasses Kurt Cobain’s green-and-yellow sweater from the Smells Like Teen Spirit video shoot. It surpasses the Grateful Dead’s dancing bears, Jim Morrison’s writhing, naked torso and Bob Marley’s legendary dreadlocks.
