The Wayfaring Stranger (Asch 345) is an album consisting of three 10-inch, 78 rpm records by Burl Ives released on Asch in 1944. It should not be confused with Ives' 1944 album for Columbia Records (C-103) – also called The Wayfaring Stranger and itself a re-release of a 1941 album on Okeh Records – which contains different songs. The Asch album includes the first releases of two signature songs by Ives: "Poor Wayfaring Stranger" and "The Blue Tail Fl.

Stranger in the Alps, the new release from Artist of the Month Phoebe Bridgers, captures the sense of that winnowing, the longing for something missing but still inescapably present, in beautiful melodies and heartrending lyrics. It’s a feeling given form by Bridgers’ stirring voice. With shades of Gillian Welch and Jenny Lewis, the young singer’s captivating vocal performance provides the backbone for the record. Sometimes her voice is clear and arresting, standing out starkly amid the pleasing arrangements underneath. Musically, the album is a marriage of folk influences and more heavily produced, even dreamlike elements. The foundation of most songs on the album is a blend of acoustic guitar or overflowing piano, quickly joined by electric strums and softer strings. But wilder sound design elements flit in and out, like loud, rhythmic thumps or the sounds of a busy street.

Stranger to Stranger is arguably the best album of Paul Simon's uneven post-Graceland solo career. His reliably melodic songwriting is buoyed by his most adventurous arrangements in years. Stranger to Stranger is arguably the best album of Paul Simon's uneven post- Graceland solo career.
The Werewolf" opens Stranger to Stranger, Paul Simon's thirteenth solo studio album, with a heavy rhythmic thud - bass, drums, and maracas lumbering along in a modified Bo Diddley beat not a far cry from the Who's "Slip Ki. Simon isn't looking to the past, though: he's writing toward an inevitable sunset, mindful of mortality - just like he was on 2011's So Beautiful or So What - but he's firmly grounded in a tumultuous present, embracing all the cut-and-paste contradictions endemic to the digital age.
