The album cover is a photograph of her great-grandfather, taken on the same West Somerset farm as the photos of her on the CD and inlay. A number of songs contain references to Ange’s family life and formative years. The title track is a retelling of the classic nursery rhyme about the unfortunate black sheep who gives away the only thing he owns and is left cold and alone.

This is the third album from Somerset singer and songwriter Ange Hardy. Where 'Bare Foot Folk' was about stripping everything back to it's roots 'The Lament of The Black Sheep' is about exploring the surrounding soil. The Lament of The Black Sheep' is a collection of original songs inspired by family, tradition, personal experience, and the tales of West Somerset. These are songs of heritage and stories of working the land. Despite not being overtly autobiographical this is a deeply personal album

Trad folk with such sweetly mellow vocals it sometimes feels closer to a new age relaxation tape.

There is not a weak track among the 14 on Somerset singer-songwriter Ange Hardy's album The Lament of the Black Sheep - Martin Chilton, The Telegraph. A collection of her own songs which sound as if they might be traditional. a fine album immersed in the tradition, but with a modem perspective" - Ian Croft, R2 magazine. An album that marks the arrival of a new star in the folk firmament.

The Lament of the Black Sheep. The Bow To The Sailor. 2. The Lament Of The Black Sheep. 3. The Gambler's Lot. Ange Hardy. 4. The Daring Lassie. Despite not being overtly autobiographical this is a deeply personal album. I was fortunate to discover Ange Hardy about 18 months ago after being sent her marvellous Barefoot Folk album. I was immediately struck by the purity of her voice, the brilliance and warmth of her songwriting and the canniness of her guitar playing. Ange's new album takes this a stage further.
