The Band - Cahoots album FLAC

Cahoots is the fourth studio album by Canadian/American rock group the Band. The album's front cover was painted by New York artist/illustrator Gilbert Stone, while the back cover features a photograph portrait of the group by Richard Avedon. The album features guest vocals from Van Morrison. Rick Danko - bass guitar, vocals. Levon Helm - drums, mandolin, guitar, vocals.

In comparison to its predecessors, Cahoots, the Band's fourth album, may be characterized as an essentially minor effort that nevertheless contains a few small pleasures. These pleasures begin with the leadoff track, "Life Is a Carnival," a song that continues the theme of Stage Fright by emphasizing the false nature of show business and its impact on reality.

The Band's tight-knit relationship had begun to deteriorate and they were now recording in a full studio, having only to come in when their musicianship was required. All these factors are what made Cahoots an altogether weaker and less popular album than it's predecessors. 1) Life Is A Carnival Cahoots begins with a bang in the form of Life Is A Carnival, a funky rocker that remained a concert staple for The Band until The Last Waltz

The failure is solely in the writing; the Band sounds as good as ever playing the songs, with singers Manuel, Levon Helm, and Rick Danko all performing effectively and primary instrumentalist Garth Hudson filling in the arrangements cleverly. It's just that the material is not strong enough, particularly in comparison to the three impressive albums the Band had released previously.

The narrator of these songs is most often observing others and in the process drawing explicit contrasts, comparisons, and morals. On Cahoots every note and every line is constructed to enhance the meaning of the album. And, in fact, it is the overly constructed aspect of the album that emerges as its greatest flaw.
