Orlandus Lassus, Pro Cantione Antiqua - Music For Holy Week And Easter Sunday • Requiem In Four Parts album FLAC
Calm/Peaceful Dignified/Noble Melancholy Reverent. Pro Cantione Antiqua. Orlandus Lassus: Music for Holy Week and Easter Sunday; Requiem in four parts. Three Lamentations for Holy Saturday. 8. 9.
Music For Easter Sunday: Magnificat super 'Aurora lucis rutilat'. 6. Requiem For Four Voices: Introitus: Requiem aeternam. 7. Requiem For Four Voices: Kyrie. Requiem For Four Voices: Graduale: Si ambulem in medio umbrae mortis. Requiem For Four Voices: Tractus: Absolve Domine. 10. Requiem For Four Voices: Sequentia: Dies irae. Each disc contains over 70 minutes worth of music. The Pro Cantione Antiqua sing this music with great style and beauty, yet they bring out the depth of expression in this music with great taste and intelligence. The ensemble uses male voices from soprano to bass most of the time and as a result the sound is very unified. The three countertenors on the top lines are particularly good. This isn't easy music to get to know and it is not a disc for casual listening. Yes, it is quite demanding, highly articulate and intellectually rigorous music, so be warned!

Requiem In Four Parts. from the cover . As a composer of masses, Lassus has indeed been overshadowed in recent times by the towering figure of Palestrina. The large majority of the Flemish master's compositions in this field remain unfamiliar to all but a few scholars, although his reputation was unequalled in the sixteenth century. The Benedictus is a trio for the upper parts. Above all, the brief but exalted rising phrase in the Hosanna of the Benedictus, on the words 'In excelsis', echoed twice in the Communio on the words 'In aeternum', are the expression not of mortality and suffering but of unshakeablc faith in the Resurrection.
