The performance will be followed by a Q&A with the performers and author, David Toop. Describing the event, a spokesperson for the venerable London independent shop said: "Once upon a time, Steve Beresford played Tania Chen the Folkways CD of Indeterminacy, by John Cage and David Tudor. The three of them have now performed the piece - trimmed to thirty or forty stories, randomly selected - many times. In their version, everyone can hear each other.

From 2010 he performed various pieces by John Cage, including Indeterminacy with Tania Chen and comedian Stewart Lee, and a performance with Ilan Volkov at The BBC Proms 2012 at The Royal Albert Hall in London. He has also worked with a number of popular musicians, including Ray Davis, The Slits, Frank Chickens, Ted Milton and The Flying Lizards. In 2015 he performed a duoproject with the upcoming Norwegian singer Natalie Sandtorv at the Blow Out! festival in Oslo, Norway. He was awarded a Paul Hamlyn Award for Artists in 2012. Steve Beresford is a British musician who graduated from the University of York.

Comedian Stewart Lee and improvisers Steve Beresford and Tania Chen perform their interpretation of John Cage's 1959 recording Indeterminacy in a performance given at London's Cafe Oto in April. Robert Worby talks to the trio about how they approached the work, which involves the carefully timed reading of randomly selected stories by Cage - personal musings on subjects ranging from mushroom identification to music lessons with Arnold Schoenberg - to a disconnected musical accompaniment. They will then take it to other venues around the country. It’s a historic event: as far as anyone can vouch, this will be the first performance of Indeterminacy since Cage and Tudor’s recording.
