The Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album was awarded from 1991 to 2011. From 1991 to 1993 the category was awarded as Best Rock/Contemporary Gospel Album. From 2007 to 2011 it was awarded as Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album. The award was discontinued from 2012 in a major overhaul of Grammy categories. From 2012, recordings in this category were shifted to either Best Contemporary Christian Music Album or Best Gospel Album categories.
Fuel 2000 would have been more honest if they had titled it "Country Gospel Record" because it does include 14 gospel songs by country artists. As per the label's usual practice of not providing much info about its releases, there are no liner notes or recording dates, so it is hard to pin down exactly what era each song is from.
Great Country Gospel features timeless Gospel songs sung by renowned Country artists like Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Teenessee Ernie Ford, Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, The Statler Brothers, George Jones, June Carter Cash and more. This is a beautiful assortment of old time gospel songs performed by terrific country singers. I would have chosen a different tune than Elvis's "Crying in the Chapel" and I would have liked another Johnny Cash song instead. I love Patsy Cline's 'Just a Closer Walk" and Loretta Lynn's "In the Sweet by and by".
