Avril Lavigne’s sophomore studio album Under My Skin was mostly written with singer and songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk in Malibu, on an in-house recording studio. The album had a darker sound, with a vibe reminiscent of grunge and melodic rock. I knew how I wanted the drums, the guitar tones, and the structures to be. Lavigne hasn't only shed her trademark ties for thrift-shop skirts, she's essentially ditched the sound of Let Go too, bringing herself closer to the mature aspirations of fellow young singer/songwriter Michelle Branch. Since Avril is still a teenager and still a brat, it's livelier than Branch. Even when it sags under minor keys and mid-tempos, it's fueled on teen angst and a sense of entitled narcissism, as if she's the first to discover the joys of love and pain of heartache.

Under My Skin is the second studio album by Avril Lavigne, released in 2004. The album debuted at number-one on the Billboard 200 albums chart and has sold over 14 million copies worldwide. The sound of Under My Skin is a bit more aggressive, darker and heavier than her previous album Let Go and was well received by fans and critics. The album contains 4 successful hit singles; "Don't Tell Me", "My Happy Ending", "Nobody's Home" and "He Wasn't".
