The second Slash's Snakepit album, Ain't Life Grand, reigns in the blues-rock jamming of It's Five O'Clock Somewhere in favor of a more song-oriented approach. New vocalist Rod Jackson is a combination of '80s pop-metal bluster and Faces-era Rod Stewart, which - with more than a touch of Aerosmith added - is actually a pretty accurate way to describe the band as well. The new Snakepit does kick up a lot of noise as the album rushes by, and the strong chemistry between the members is immediately obvious.

But as Slash's Snakepit changed label, Ain't Life Grand is finally released at the beginning of October. By: Slash's Snakepit. Released: October 10, 2000. Reviews about Slash's Snakepit - Ain't Life Grand (1):
Love Me
Appetite It Ain't - But It Ain't Bad!Forget Slash's signature guitar playing, it's Rod Jackson's vocals that are front and center. The album pays homage to seventies rockers Aerosmith and Alice Cooper for the most part. 'Serial Killer' is a throwback to Alice's 'Welcome To My Nightmare' days and 'Speed Parade' is definitely an Aerosmith-tinged rocker. The unfortunate thing when playing this album is the ebb and flow and lack of consistency from track to track. Listeners are taken for a bumpy ride with classic soul-injected rockers like the title track and 'Back to the Moment' spread out between a mish-mash of post-grunge / retro rock. If only Slash had made better use of vocalist Jackson then chances are there would be no talk of reuniting Guns.
