Funny how I blind myself, I never knew If I was sometimes played upon, afraid to lose. It’s My Life is the title track to Talk Talk’s sophomore album. It became their only top 40 hit in the US and reached in the UK. The song is about a man in a relationship with a woman who is seeing someone else, and seems to be both wilfully ignorant yet all too conscious of it. It was accompanied by an iconic music video showing varieties of animals, spliced together from various nature documentaries as a protest against lip-syncing commonly used in hit music videos.
After an unremarkable debut, Talk Talk regrouped and refashioned themselves more in the style of sophisto-era Roxy Music while developing their own voice.
It’s My Life is a new wave song written by Mark Hollis and Tim Friese-Greene for Talk Talk’s second studio album, also entitled It's My Life, released in 1984. The song was released as a single in 1984, then re-released in 1985 and 1990. The 1990 reissue, to promote the Natural History: The Very Best of Talk Talk compilation, finally made the song a UK hit, reaching number 13 - the band's highest singles chart placing.
Also performed by: No Doubt. I've asked myself, how much do you. Commit yourself? It's my life.
