It was certified Gold and Platinum on October 14 and 3x Platinum on August 1, 2002, by the RIAA

The performance, described as the last great moment of his career, was recorded for his last television special two months before his death in August 1977. An article in Rolling Stone adds: He had an enlarged heart, an enlarged intestine, hypertension and incredibly painful bowel problems

1977 concert was one of his final performances. When Elvis Presley hit the road in June 1977, he was an absolute mess. He was only 42, but years of prescription drug abuse and horrifying dietary habits had left him bloated, depressed and near death. He had an enlarged heart, an enlarged intestine, hypertension and incredibly painful bowel problems. He was barely sleeping and should have probably been in the hospital, but he was still a huge draw on the concert circuit and the money was too good to turn down. Despite Elvis’ horrid shape, Parker arranged for a camera crew to film the June 19th show in Omaha for a planned TV special and live album. It eventually aired on CBS two months after Elvis died, and has yet to resurface in any official capacity. This isn’t the Elvis that his estate wants the fans to remember.

Most of the "Elvis in Concert" album was taken from these two shows, which happened on June 19 and 21, respectively. Contrary to what a lot of music critics say, this is album is fantastic. Starting with the fan commments and the ominious, opening strains of "Also Sprach Zarathustra," one gets a sense of the excitement that Elvis created when he appeared "in concert. It is a collection of songs from his final live performances prior to his death in 1977. When I listen to the Elvis from this album, it's like I'm listening to an old friend. Although many say that he was passed his prime, overweight and was forgetting his lines, I say that Elvis was still an excellent show man, his voice was mature and comforting, and its range was still very impressive.

Elvis was in Montgomery on the 16th wearing the Rainfall suit again and sounding a bit out of breath for most of the show but the highlight of the whole show was the one time only performance of the gospel song Where No One Stands Alone which is one of the performances of the year. The 17th February was a special show as it was the first time in over 2 years that Elvis wore the soon to be overused Mexican Sundial jumpsuit was worn on stage in Savannah with the highlight of that show being one of his latest records Hurt receiving a full reprise which raised the roof. On Tour June 17 - June 26, 1977. The June 1977 tour would become known as Elvis' Final Farewell to his beloved fans as it would be the last tour he would ever perform. The 9 day tour started on 17th June in Springfield with Elvis wearing the usual Mexican Sundial jumpsuit for the show and looked very overweight but smiling. Although both the June 19 and 21 concerts are the last official live professional ones ever recorded of Presley alive, Vernon Presley, Elvis' father, recorded a message that was broadcast at the end of the special and included on the soundtrack album, in which he erroneously states that the performance featured was his son's last appearance; in fact Elvis made five more.
