Little Miss Muffet, Sat on a tuffet, Eating her curds and whey; Along came a spider, Who sat down beside her, And frightened, Miss Muffet, away. Percy B. Green gave this variation of Little Miss Muffet in "A History of Nursery Rhymes" (1899): Little Mary Esther sat upon a tester, Eating curds and whey; There came a big spider, and sat down beside her, And frightened little Mary Esther away!

Little Miss Muffet" is a nursery rhyme, one of the most commonly printed in the mid-twentieth century. It has a Roud Folk Song Index number of 20605. Sat on a tuffet, Eating her curds and whey; Along came a spider. Who sat down beside her. And frightened Miss Muffet away. The "her" in line 3 is "of" in older versions.
